Poll: (for school project) When something really bad happens...?

Question

like let's say a murder.. or a massacre or something.
And the news shows you this person and all of america etc would see it ..
when you first see who he/she was would you
a. say "what a crazy person!! what kind of *person* would do such a thing!!"
b. "whoh that's a _____ person (blank takes place of ethnicity) and go straight into the stereotypes and judgement of that person's ethnicity?
c. other
and it would be nice if ya'll explained why too.

First of all, thank you for being honest about this being research for school.

My answer is "A". It's usually along the lines of "how can someone DO such a thing?"

But I also realize that some people prone to violence were brought up with violence. That doesn't excuse their actions, but to me it helps explain it. But I'm living proof that one CAN change the thinking that was instilled in them -- my family are rather on the racist side, and I consciously chose in my 20s to stop thinking that way because it struck me as wrong and a manifestation of negative energy.

C. Other - First I turn it off, because hearing all that negative stuff all the time does me no good. But if for some reason I have already heard the whole story, instead of focusing my thoughts on the person who did the crime, I would say something like "I hope that lady lives" or "The poor family of that murdered kid... I hope they can find peace" or (as in the case of the Virginia college campus thing "What a shame they were cut down in the prime of their lives. "

yep i normally just say! a. what kind of person would do such a thing!!

because it is just like at says! that is just ate up, not right! I mean how could you get up enough nerve to kill someone. I could never do it no matter how mad i was! the guilt would drive me mad! i think people that murder people should be murdered the same way they murdered that other person! i know but that is inhuman.

I think "what a crazy person". Because one human being should not take another's life, it's just unnatural, especially if it is a massacre. But as the saying says "man is a wolf for man".

I personally would say A, but then I would wonder why and pivot to C because I would rationalize that there may have been a good reason, you never really know.

I typically feel sorry for the person that did something of that nature, because is seems to me, to do something like that they would have to be not right in the head

I say that because it seems that every year the murders keep getting more and more violent, people are snapping for the stupidest things, and it just looks like there are more and more murderers as time progresses. People are just getting crazier!
