On my screen, I see a "minute" sign after the 74.26, not a degree sign.

In any event.

Each degree is divided into 60 minutes. So if you have 0.26 degrees, that would give you 60*0.26 = 15.6 minutes.

Each minute is divided into 60 seconds. So, if you have 0.6 minutes, that would give you 60*0.6 = 36 seconds.

So, take 74.26 degrees, you have 74 degrees, set that aside and keep only the fraction. Multiply the fraction by 60 to get the minutes. Set the whole minutes aside and keep only the fraction. Multiply this fraction by 60 to get seconds. Stop there (even if you have fractions).

Centuries ago, you would have continued the same process into "thirds", "fourths" and "fifths", with a factor of 60 at each step, but now we stop at "seconds".

If it really is 74.26 minutes, then that is more than 60 minutes: divide by 60.
74.26 / 60 = 1.23766666...
the whole number is the number of degrees: 1.
Set that aside and keep only the fraction; multiply it by 60
60*0.23766666... = 14.26
The whole number is the number of minutes: 14
Set that aside and keep only the fraction; multiply it by 60
60*0.26 = 15.6 seconds.

74.26 minutes = 1 deg. 14 min. 15.6 sec.

okay you know that you have 74 degrees. that is given.

from there you have to use the decimal , .26, and break it down to minutes and seconds

to do this, you have to convert 26/100 (.26) to x/60. cross multiply and you get 15.6 minutes. now you have minutes, 15, but you need to break the decimal down into seconds.

to do this, use the same method. you must convert .6, 6/100 to x/60. cross multiply and you get 36.

i hope you understood this explanation.
