What can I do with my alexandrite stone?

I have an alexandrite gemstone given to me by a friend. That's my wife's favorite gem and her birthstone, so it has some sentimental value. The stone is almost the size of a dime in diameter, with a round brilliant cut.

Unfortunately, there is a crack on the edge that you can see from the top view.

What can I do with this alexandrite? I've tried a few stores in Milwaukee and I've gotten some different answers, mostly that they don't do that kind of thing.

try makeing it into a blingy ring, or a cute necolace!

I am not an expert in this area at all, but if it is not repairable, then you might have to have it cut by a professional gemstone cutter into pieces, or shaved down in size. You could then have it reset, or maybe made into some kind of pendant necklace. You'd probably have to be willing to pay a decent amount, and the work may cost more than the stone is worth, which may be why no one wants to do it.

I hate it when sentimental things get broken, so I'm sorry. Be creative and maybe you'll be able to come up with something.

you should find you a good jewler, and have them make it into a pendant for your wife. A good jewler can do anything. First start by looking up one on the internet or look in your local phone book and ask around.

it might be too big for a ring but you can always add some gold around it and get it done into a pendant... it can be worn with a chain or some pearls.... or it could be embedded with gold/silver/platinum like a bracelet too... but to my knowledge a pendant should look just fine :)

maybe a jeweler could make up a silver or gold bezel on it and you could wear it from a leather cord or chain around your neck, you could also take the same idea and use it on your key chain
