It's a tough call, but I'd have to go with a 3-way tie between the Beatles, the Stones, and...... the MOODY BLUES!
Following them in close second place would be a 4-way tie between Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Kinks, and ELO. Actually, when you get 7 bands this great, it's impossible to choose who's actually the top favorite, because they are ALL amazing!!!!

I have a bunch of British Favs: King Crimson, Yes, Black Sabbath (Without Ozzy), Gentle Giant, Cream, YardBirds, Beatles, Etc. I mean they practically invented the genre of Rock before Americans did. America liked the idea and followed after...but I like both realms of rock personally.
American: BS&T, Chicago, Kansas, Boston, Grateful Dead, Etc.
