Yeah, estuary.

For example, the San Francisco Bay (The complex formed by Suisun, San Pablo and San Francisco Bays) is actually the San Francisco Estuary due to the infllow of the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta.

This was referenced in the 70's KTVU after-school children's puppet/cartoon show "Charley & Humphrey" when Humphrey (the dog puppet) would refer to throwing stuff out the back door of their Jack London Square studios "into the estuary."
