If you lie about something substantive then you could have trouble. The person you get into trouble can sue you. If you lie about a crime being committed or an emergency you can be prosecuted for false reports.
In most states it is not illegal to lie to the police.
It is illegal to lie to a federal officer.

Do you know for a fact he was a police officer, did he show you a badge? Never pull over for someone that just says he's a cop, you may never be seen again. If a real cop wants you to pull over he can get a patrol car to do it.

The circumstance you described is illegal. Be smart and just don't say anything at all and then you don't have to lie. You can get charged with interfering with a police investigation or obstruction of justice.

yes it is a crime to lie to the police. it is caused giving false information to a police officer.they will lie on witness statements that are written or verbal.depending on the incident they could be charged with perjury.

yes and no. If you are not sure how to answer a cop get an attorney. Why would you want to talk to a cop anyway?
