Me and my friend got an apartment together a few months ago, we agreed to each pay half of the rent each month. He lost his job about a month ago, and he doesn't have any money for this months rent. He is supposedly looking for a job now... I was just wondering what my legal rights are? Is there anything I can do under the law to make him pay half the rent?

With what? You are being unrealistic to think he can pay rent without a job. Perhaps you can help him in his job search and possibly you can get a loan to pay his half and then have him sign a promissory note to you for the loan and the interest. You know sometimes a little honey goes a long way and works a lot better than vinegar.

Are you both on the lease? If it's just him, don't pay the rent and screw up his credit. If it's just you or the both of your names, if you don't pay, your credit will be screwed up and if he doesn't have any money, you are pretty much out of luck.
