I think it is a great song in my opinion because most people can relate to it. it doesn't have to be a dance. it can be anything from meeting someone to just having a phone converstion. you could have missed the pain and everything but you would have missed the dance. i know i can really relate. i sometimes wonder if it would have been easier to miss the pain and miss the dance but in other ways. i am glad i didn't miss it.

the lyrics say it all
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have chanced it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd of had to miss the dance

It's a wonderful song. Even though I am only 19, there have been a lot of things in my life that I could have dealt without due to the pain that was caused. However, in looking back, I realize that had it not been for the "dance" I wouldn't be the woman that I am today.

I am huge fan of Garth Brooks and my all time faveorite song is The Dance. This song helpt me get thru a break up. The song meant something to me and this guy. We parked in a romantic spot that over looks the city. He gave me a rose and we danced to this song. But a few months later the realtionship came to an end. For a long time this song would bring a tear to my eyes. Now its just makes me think of something I went thru in my life that has made me the person I am today.

It is one of my favorite Garth hits. When I hear it, I want to cry. It was a favorite of my huband's who passed away a few years ago. When I hear it, I think of him. My sister burned a CD for his funeral service and this was one song I requested. May my Tom rest in peace as he know longer is suffering. But there is so much he has missed in my life. I may have not missed all the pain, but I never missed the Dance with him.

I hate country music but can tolerate Garth. Friends in low places and the dance are the only two songs I can stand.

It is a beautiful song. Some songs are just a few written words repeated with a hook line but this song is pure poetry.

That song was dedicated once to a local radio DJ who committed suicide. I've always loved the song, but now when I hear it I get sad.

It makes me cry because I think of all the things I missed and never "danced" with.

I love the song! It keeps me aware of the fact that without pain and sadness, we wouldn't know happiness.
