The traditional word is necromancer literally "one who communes with the dead" from the Greek words nekros (the dead) and mantis (someone "possessed" or "communing" with the divine or spirits).
The ancient Greeks had necromantic shrines (nekromanteion) where people would go to speak with the ghosts of the dead. The most famous were at Cumae in Italy and Thesprotia in Western Greece.
