Thomas Jefferson. The Louisiana Purchase gave several generations of Americans vast natural resources to exploit. Also, by giving Napoleon the money he needed to build an army, the British were kept busy so they couldn't afford to conquer America in the War of 1812, a war in which they ultimately had to settle for a draw. Other presidents have given the people similar gifts, but the scope of the Louisiana Purchase has never been matched.

All presidents are created equal---they have GOOD points and they have bad points.... ANYONE could name ANY one of the 43 presidents that we have had so far and SOMEONE could come up with SOME mistake each one had made during his terms as President..... then, you have to think of what criteria makes a good present GREAT... and what makes one great to one person is NOT neccessarily the opinion of someone else. So, in this case, I would have to say ALL the presidents were great but some were better then others.... I'm NOT going to nominate the current president for anything in this category however....

That honor should belong to Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
1. He was elected 4 times.
2. He pulled the country out of the Great Depression.
3. He led the country through World War II.
4. Thanks to his efforts, the United States is the super power that it is today.
A real close second would be Lincoln, followed by (in no particular order), Reagan, Jefferson, and Madison. All of whom were great leaders in their respective times. Please notice that 3 of the 5 are Democrats.
Edit:
In my life-time the list would read:
Reagan
George W. Bush
George H.W. Bush
Nixon
Ford
Cliton
Carter

No one knows...All time hasn't finished yet..we got alot of time to go yet...but if you mean " As of now" It would have to be..In my opinion drum roll please...... There is no answer..it's like asking who was the worst dictator of all time... too many options and time periods involved that earthers do not consider..for instance..... Wheelchair delano, had a couple disasterous terms...so did logging lincoln, river crossing washington, Jimmy "peanuts" carter, Darth Reagan, George " No new taxes" Bush Sr., Dwight " D-day better them than me " Eisenhower, John F. " Hey !! where's the entertainment ?" Kennedy, We want the earthers to know we are here......
