The most expensive street legal car, is the Bugatti Veyron, priced at 1.7 million dollars. "The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the most powerful, most expensive, and fastest street-legal production car in the world, with a proven top speed of over 400 km/h (407 km/h or 253 mph)." There are most likely custom cars that are more expensive than that, but the Veyron is the most expensive production car, as said in quote.

That depends on what you mean by most expensive car.. Do you mean CURRENT car, or a rare find that someone paid $8 million for? According to CNN, http://www.cnn.com/2007/AUTOS/05/04/general_lee_ebay_record/index.html)
a General Lee (from the Dukes of Hazard) fetched $10 Million and was the highest price ever paid for a car.. New production car? The Bugatti Veyron at $1,700,000..

yeah, the buggatti is tops---the highest price I have heard of paid for an old car was the 1936 Deusenberg J, 16 cylinders, 99mph in second gear, 130+ top speed. Customized late-model production cars cost, well, whatever the rich guy wants to spend, I guess...
