There is a hole in the ground in front of my house where bees fly in and out. Is there an effective and safe way to address this issue? (I saw mention of burning the hives, pesticides--does just filling the hole work?) Thanks in advance.

You will probably need to fill the hole after you get rid of bees...Yellow jackets usually have a pretty good size nest and some times several layers.........very late in eve.and very safely..use like a tourch burn and then dig the soil..........or try HOT water, then dig and repeat........then fill the hold and smooth......

go get some SEVIN dust at Lowes or a garden nursery.... wait until dark....take the Sevin dust in old plastic butter bowls or deep cups....walk softly to the hole and gently lay the dust all around the hole in the ground..... go back in the house....

putting the dust around the hole will make contact with as many of the ground 'bees' as possible, as they have to walk thru it to get out.... they also have to walk thru it to get into the nest that evening.... once they carry it back inside, the nest will die off..... the second or third day, check closely to see that none are around and then fill in the hole, still keeping away and safe....

if you need some light to do this with, put a red cloth over the end of the flashlight so they don't see the light and come out ..... be careful.... I had to do this last year at the foundation of my house and it worked really well.....

As my family has owned and operated an exterminator company since 1957... I can almost guarantee you bee keeper wont take them....for one they are not honey bees, and that what they want. Second its too late in the year another reason they wont take them....If I was you as a homeowner not wanting to call an exterminator...I would burn the place down.
As its about the only other thing that may work!!

hope this helps!

look in the phone book and see if you have any local bee keepers that might come get the bees.
Do your best not to kill them, the bee populations have problem right now with a virus killing off the bees.

Call in an AIR STRIKE and use NAPALM on them. A SCORCHED EARTH policy works best....
