My parents never did with me. I never got along with my parents; but I think its how you raise them. If you raised them to communicate with you and you being the authorative figure and not their friend, then they'll want to talk to you about that kind of stuff. If you raise them to be your friend...I mean...who wants to tell their friend about periods at the age of 10? I sure didn't...lol.

My parents didn't communicate better with me when I was a teenager and I think it is because they don't want to spend time and develop patience for what we have to say.

anyways, parents assume that their children are perfect and wouldn't do drugs/alcohol/smoking/having sex and all that stuff. they also feel uncomfortable discussing sex and drugs with us. it's just obvious. good luck! + i hope im your best answer.:]
