My husband and I are coming up on our 10th anniversary. I have acute eczema, and am unable to wear a wedding ring because it invariably causes a painful break-out (I've been through three rings in the course of our marriage, including one specifically designed for allergy and eczema sufferers - no luck).

My husband's been enormously understanding, but I know it bother's him that I'm constantly without a ring while he wears his faithfully.

I'm thinking of having a wedding ring tattooed as an anniversary gift to him, and am looking for design and colour ideas and suggestions. I'm fair-skinned, and although I'm in a fairly creative field, I'm also a professional and I don't want anything too wild or ostentatious.

Any advice?

We were considering doing this also, so I have done some research. The underside of the finger will often have to be redone as the skin sloughs and renews so often in this area, especially on men who work with their hands. The designs have a tendancy to smudge if you do not allow proper healing time, which can be a touch thing for men and their hands. There is also a risk of the needle going slightly too far and fracturing your finger bone...which would not be an enjoyable situation. Where I am from there is only one place who would even be willing to considering doing it. The rest said no right away. It is a romantic idea, and I highly suggest you really take the time to look into your local tattoo artists and get be sure they have done finger tats before. Best of luck!!!

GREAT IDEA!!!

My husband and i both have the infinity sign tattooed under our wedding bands- he is unable to wear his rings on deployment and i was much to large to wear mine during pregnancy. Check out the infinity sign here- its clean, has meaning, and anyone who has ever seen me without my wedding bands has only had positive things to say about it.

Another design i have seen is simply getting a black band around the finger.

I wouldn't suggest anything elaborate such as names for intense designs because overtime the tiny details in such a small area will blur.

Also, the reason my husband and i chose the infinity sign was because it has the same representation as the wedding band- eternity, and is also a continuous line.

If you would like to see photos of my tattoo feel free to contact me and i'll send you some! It has been 1 year since i got the tattoo and since then i have worn my rings over it 8 of those months and it hasn't faded any!

I don't know anything about the disease, but maybe, intstead of the ring and tattoo, you can wear a wedding bracelet, necklace, earrings, etc. If you still want the tattoo, i'd make a sophisticated color like black, silver, gold, something realistic.if you two have a symbol, like a rose, you can do that for the center, or even just have something engraved on your finger like "together forever" or something. I wish you best of luck, god bless, and take care.

thats really sweet
and creative.

I would get something simple
not too crazy
and that might hurt ouch
sensitive spot, so you might
not want too much going on

i would get it like the two lines
like an acutally ring,
maybe put your name && his
and the date of your marriage.
with maybe a little heart,

or you could have a quote
that explains what your love is
or a saying, or name you call each other
something only you two would get

but its all up to you.
hell love it no matter what im sure

Aww! that's so cute! I want to get my ring tattooed (when i get married) Anyway, back to the design... I'm not sure. What signifies your marriage? A zodiac symbol? or a special flower? If you can't think of anything, i would recommend getting a tattoo of the first ring he's given to you. Or his name... or both! And good luck with your marriage!

A heart in the middle with the month on one side and the year on the other. The symbol for eternity would look neat, if you are irish, a celtic design is pretty I have seen that on someone. Great idea by the way!!

no don't do it god said not 2 damage ur body in ink cuz ur skin is naturally beautiful. if he wanted u 2 have tatoos he wouldve put them on u and besides what if the marriage doesn't work out what are u gonna do then + the ring will be dug into the skin which will make the irritation worse
