Comparing closers and starters is not a good comparison. And to the poster who thinks Hoffman is the most dominant closer ever, think again....that belongs to Mariano Rivera. Or do you need the 1998 World Series as a reminder???
Right NOW, Maddux is the best out of those bunch, since I am excluding Hoffman. Clemens still has his moments, as does Wells. However, I wouldn't want any one of those guys starting Game 7 of the World Series for me.

Currently it is Hoffman. Clemens has possibly had the biggest one year performance dropoff in his career, Wells just hasn't had it for the past two or three years. While Moyer and Maddux can still show flashes of brilliance neither are anywhere close to what they were about four or five years ago, while Hoffman who may no longer be lights out is still an effective closer.

Maddux is !Clemens is a steroid boy.Hoffman is a closer Not a true pitcher closers are over rated whats so great about getting three outs before giving up the lead.Alot of times the save comes in 7th or 8th inning depending on the situation where's Hoffman then ? sitting on his brains thats where.Moyer or Wells ? flip a coin

Maddux, he has actually done well this year. Hoffman has had a down year since last year, Clemons has come in and gone 6-6 with a terrible ERA. Wells is one of the worst pitchers in the game and moyer is done for.

Maddux-he can still make anyone strike out and have a chance for a no hitter
Moyer and Wells are finished, Clemens idk, and Hoffman would be the 2nd best

You can't compare Hoffman with four starters and I would have to go with Clemens.

Hoffman no doubt he is the most dominant closing pitcher in the game and the only closer ever with 500 saves
