Would replacing the FDA with a private and independant group be good?

to the first comment, do your research bozo, the pharm companies practially own the FDA, its made of former congressman and lobbyiest and they're first interest is to themselves, stop being a pig you sheep

Docots and other experts could make up the group, the point is they wouldnt be corrupted with washington politices, the pharm companies would lose their grip. nothing wrong with pharm companies trying to make a profit, but the government needs to be fair and maintain safe food and drugs. The current FDA is not the best way to go.

Who would staff this private and independent group? Drug company executives? University researchers (who receive a lot of their research money to conduct tests for drug companies)? I'm curious as to who you think will be independent in the review process and why you think the FDA is more corrupt than the drug companies, since their main motive is profits.

PS Back in the early 90s the U.S. public was complaining that the drug review process was too slow. The Clinton Administration and Congress enacted the Prescription Drug User Fee Act and later the FDA Modernization Act. Blame it on them, not the FDA, they are just doing what the law tells them to do.

We are supposed to have a government of, by and for the people. It is supposed to be answerable to the people. I don't know where people get the idea that removing the answerable to the people part, by privatizing, is a very good idea. I don't know where people get the idea that the private sector is somehow more honest than the public service sector.
If the FDA is corrupt, then those who are corrupt should be prosecuted.

What private and independent group would do it? How would they keep from becoming corrupt? What makes you think the FDA is corrupt?
