I'm doing a group project in S.S. about Communism (was picked by teacher) and I've been struggling on getting info for it. I mostly just need some info about how Cuba is currently doing with its government communism (like current pres. etc) and info about the past communist Soviet Union. The point of the project is that we want people to join it and say the good things and benefits about it. Also anymore info like how they pick a dictator for communism, more about the job system etc. I've been searching but Its really hard =[ I'll take any websites that have some good info about this too. Thanks muchas

I've found Wikipedia pretty useful for general research; see links below on Communism in Cuba and in the Soviet Union.

As far as "picking a dictator," you are thinking of a democratic model. Dictators seize power, and they generally hold onto power for life.

If this or another answer here proves helpful in your research, you can encourage good answers by choosing one answer as the "best answer."

Cheers,

Well, you're going to hit a snag. There has NEVER been a communist state. All the states you are taught that were "communust" were in fact socialist or other. "Union of Soviet SOCIALIST republics". Nothing about communism there. So, your essay would have to be in the abstract because you can't draw from ANY source. Now if you wanted socialism, then you have your pick.

And from what I read from your question, your views on communism are either skewed or you have a horrible teacher.

Oh, and NEVER use wikipedia for your base. NEVER. It is an alright site to get a feeling of what you should be looking for, but NEVER use it as your reference or bases for fact.

Cuba is not in a communism state of government. It is a dictatorship.
Some good things about communism- everyone is equal, there is never a change, people don't have to worry about how they are going to get food, paid...
There is no dictator in communism. The government controls everything. Not one person.

There were DEFINITELY good things about communism such as Free health care, Free education, equality among people. Everyone had the same salaries and it wasn't as competitive. My husband told me cities were named after leaders. St. Petersburg was named Leningrad during communist times. Then after communism it became St. Petersburg again.
I would ask my husband all your questions, but he's tired and grouchy. He gave me the answers above and I was lucky to get those answers because he thinks this yahoo answers is a waste of time. LOL.
good luck!
