There's about 5 yards around some piping in the basement.

Unless you have too remove it for some reason,
you're far better off encapsulating it.
Polyurethane spray paint. Two heavy coats
and you're good to go.

depends on How much there is, in Indiana we were allowed to remove a 3 yard area
with out haveing to PAY a fee , lol ya they just want the $,

WAY TOO MUCH!! Just suit up with long pants, long sleeves, a doo rag on your head, goggles and a good dust mask and DIY. Double bag it and take to a landfill for disposal.

expensive, that's the worst kind. as soon as you break it you release aspestos particles.
call a pro'
if you attemp this yourself and try as one answer suggested, you could be fined for not having disposed of it legally.
