Just short of being a communist, he was very much a socialist. There were (thanx to him) a number of government sponsored communes throughout the nation.

FDR was a pinko, through and through. He was surrounded by pinkos. His wife favored the pinkos. And He was Uncle Joes favorite Nephew, he gave the USSR most of the material that was necessary to Soviets all of Eastern Europe. FDR knew that this would happen, still he gave the materials to the Commies--trucks, planes, boots, blankets, helmets, belts; all of this he sold to the Soviet Commies, at loan. All of those things and more he provided to create the Prison Empire of the East--the Soviet Warsaw Pact Nations.

So you tell me was he a bit of a Commie? Just a bit? Do You Think!!

More of a socialist (yes that is different from a communist) if anything, though he wasn't that much of a socialist anyway. But you know what? We're not speaking German today so it doesn't really matter.

FDR was a Progressive. You wouldn't have half the freedoms you still have today if it wasn't for him. He believed in the American standard.

Well he was an ally of Stalin and he did institute a lot of social programs and the first "income tax" (redistribution of wealth) and he was the only President to not follow George Washington's example of a self-imposed 2 term limit. But he wasn't a communist, a socialist maybe, but not a communist.

FDR walked a tightrope between saving capitalism and destroying it. He used Eleanor as a mediator between himself and the hard-left socialists and communists. He could criticize them publicly while she spoke to them to try to keep ties with labor unions and activists.
