Here's the true stats:
Equal work for equal pay - regardless of sex - anything else has been illegal for decades.
Men work longer hours, more dangerious jobs, and have more years of uniterruped employment (they don't rear children) thus earning more promotions and wages.
If women truly earned 74 cents for equal work, guys like me who run companies would fire all my male employees and hire "women only" to save a whopping 26% on wages = quickly rising my company to the top by offering cheaper products / services.
Part 2:
Between 70 and 80% of consumer purchases are made by women. The media (TV, movies, News, Papers, Magazines) has all adapted their programing, ads, and content to meet these stats. Thats why we have Dr. Phil blaming everything on the husband, and so forth.
Finally, due to custody, child support, alimony, and cashing in through divorce, a major wealth shift has occured throughout the western world putting money and assets into the hands of women. (eg, she keeps house, house doubles in value, etc.)

Women in general at a lot of jobs earn less for the simple fact of childbirth. Women can have a baby which means to a company that the woman at any time can become pregnant and then need to take their maternity leave. Sometimes in some cases after the baby women decide to stay home and not return back. To a company that means that they can either be shorthanded for a few months, of have to go out and hire someone to take overthat position for a while whick means in some aspect the company suffers. Women spend more because everything costs more for women than it does men, go look at a pair of pants in the mens dept. and find the same brand in the womens dept. the woman's pants will be two to three times as much money. That goes for other clothes too. Men can get away with a shirt, tie and jacket and it will never go out of style. A woman can buy an outfit and by the end of the year it is out of style.

The women usually do the shopping for their whole family, which is why they spend more. It's all about quantity. Women -- where I live, for anyone who thinks they need to send me a mean email telling me that I'm wrong and stupid -- women are paid only 2/3 as much as men. One reason women are paid less is women don't assert themselves when it comes to how much they get paid. Companies take advantage of that and offer low pay to start. Then the woman usually accepts it without a fuss because they really need the job. As I said, this ONLY happens where I live. So no harassing emails, please, from the ignorant few who are still living in the dark when it comes to unfair wages.
You would think that companies would want to give women more money because they rely on what the woman wants to buy -- give her more money, and she'll spend it. For example, a woman shopping for a new dress finds a perfect dress -- on sale -- and she budgeted $100 for it. Let's say it was on 50% clearance. She now has $50 for shoes or other accessories! So she spends the money she saved. I've never known a woman who didn't, but AGAIN that is my experience with the women I know.
(Can you tell I had some moron send me a cruel email about my low IQ and lies I was perpetuating, that women do get paid as much as men? Where I live, they send out a yearly report as well as a huge report when the census results come in, which details what jobs women and men are doing and the wage gap between them -- when they are in the same position with equal experience.)

It's related to the division of labor in a family or household. She is purchasing 4 times more, but she is not consuming or using all of it herself.
And obviously, earnings are unrelated to consumer spending, which is why we have so many people with maxed out credit cards and filing bankruptcy .
Another example of how easily statistics can be manipulated.

The rules are not fair... The regulations are not fair... the competitive balance is not fair.
You have to think more about it though.... In a marriage situation the woman buys groceries, clothing for the kids, and most women in marriage are in charge of the bills. If they sneak in a pair of shoes here and there, it makes no difference. If you're talking about singles, then does men spending money on women count as women spending money? Who knows where you get your analysis. Money is irrelivant anyway.

Women do earn the same as a men. If you say 10 men earn more than 10 females then that may be true depending hours worked and type of work. So you should cut your femanised statement out of your indoctrinated mind.
But to answer your question simply, because they are too busy spending than earning.

You seem to have mentally reversed the relationship between spending money and making money. You should adjust your spending habits to how much money you make. Your employer is not going to pay you more just because you spend more, he/she will only pay you more if you can show that you're more productive than the next guy (gal). If you want to spend more money, you had best better figure out how to make more money, and that you accomplish by improving your human resource value.
EDIT: One thumbs down? What's wrong with the concept of making more money if you want to spend more money and improving one's human resource value if you want to make more money? It's the American way!

Exactly where did you come up with the figure that women spend 4 times more than men?
Generalize much, do we?

Because we are generally the ones who have to do the household errands. Shopping for groceries, cleaning supplies, furniture, children's clothing, etc are all part of that process.
