Tommy - agreed, but these are two major ones, not half-@rsed tremors! That is a big deal.

Michael - according to Sky News there's been a second one. BUT according to BBC news it's actually major aftershocks.

Latest:
" JAKARTA, Indonesia — A powerful earthquake shook western Indonesia for the second straight day Thursday and triggered a tsunami alert. The latest tremor was also felt in neighboring Singapore, causing tall buildings to sway.
On Wednesday, a strong earthquake shook Southeast Asia, collapsing buildings, killing at least five people and injuring dozens in Indonesia. That tremor triggered small waves off the coastal town of Padang in Sumatra, the island ravaged by the 2004 tsunami disaster.
The U.S. Geological Survey said Thursday's tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 and was 125 miles from Bengkulu, a city on Sumatra, at a depth of six miles. Local officials said it had the potential to trigger a tsunami."http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/world/5130495.html

BBC update, 4am: A second strong earthquake has hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra, a day after an 8.4 magnitude tremor destroyed buildings in several towns and cities.
At least six people are confirmed dead, but officials fear bad communications may be hiding the scale of the impact.
Wednesday's quake was measured by US officials as magnitude 8.4, and a new tremor of 7.7 hit on Thursday. Many buildings, weakened in the first tremor, are now reported to have been destroyed in the city of Padang.

It's tragic and my heart goes out to them. Any natural disaster is awful and hopefully, wherever possible, the goverment ensures that people have some form of preparation like in Japan where it seems like what to do in the event of an earthquake (they happen there from time to time) is drilled into people.
It's a shame that not more people are interested in this : McCann saturation on Yahoo Answers at the moment.

The History Channel ran a show about the Krakatoa volcano that caused so much destruction in 1883. Scientists say it is about due again, and pressure is building. It might not happen for years, but the earthquakes are precursors to an eruption. There might be some info on the history channel website, or maybe they'll run it again on TV. Scary stuff.

Yeah , i in simple terms heard , they consistently have eathquakes, lots of the persons there stay proper next to volcanoes , whether it grow to be to no longer undesirable this time, no tsunami warning ,i'm hoping they're allright.you're proper ,the international is going by way of changes if the magenetic field reverses then this is a disaster, yet those issues are uncommon and that i'm advantageous related to the destiny.

No there was only one major quake in Indonesia yesterday but there was a small after shock some hours later. There was a small tsunami afterwards but was only approx 2 meters high. No deaths have been reported from that.

Yes, I thought it was an 8.4 quake. I heard that only 9 people were killed. Our current Headlines could be taken right out of the Bible! I sure hope more people realize this before it is too late!
