Yes, another Harry Potter question. But this one, I seriously don't know the answer to... *possible spoilers if you haven't read the 5th book*
At the beginning of the fifth book, when Harry and Dudley are attacked by dementors, Dudley later says that he heard voices.
I thought that what he heard would be toldin later books, but it didn't say what his worst memory was.

So now I turn to Yahoo! Answers, in case I missed something in my many rereadings of the books. What was Dudley's worst memory?

Massie, if you had an ounce of wit, I'd by seeing an insult more creative than "your face." Instead of that 'AH-mazing' thing, why don't you actually try to be original?

Sweetie, Dudley probably heard Mah_see's voice and saw Mah_see's face. Heehee.

Seriously though, Jo said in the webchat with her after the book's release that Dudley saw himself as the rotten, spoiled brat that he really was. That started his inner transformation bringing about his actions of leaving tea at Harry's bedroom door and after much struggle, say that he didn't think Harry was not a waste of space, acknowledging that Harry saved his life and extending his hand to Harry before leaving Privet Drive for safety.

But I bet it's Mah_see! Cheer up, sweetie, she's probably just making fun. Let her be. It's not worth getting upset over such answers. Just imagine she's the embodiment of Pansy Parkinson. Ta!

JK Rowling answered this question in the live chat that took place after the release of Book 7.

Superhans: What was duldeys worst memory?

J.K. Rowling: I think that when Dudley was attacked by the Dementors he saw himself, for the first time, as he really was. This was an extremely painful, but ultimately salutory lesson, and began the transformation in him.

It was Dudley seeing himself as the rotton, spoiled brat he really was. That was why he..sort of..thanked Harry in the last book. It didn't say that in the book, but J.K. Rowling confirmed this in a post- Deathly Hallows interview.

no one knows but i'm guessing he heard voices just like how harry heard voices when ever a dementor comes near him. he hears his mother's voice while she was on the verg of death so i guess dudley heard something that was painful in his life.

I don't recall them ever actually saying what his worst memory was. But considering his fairly pampered childhood it was probably something related to not getting what he wanted. Or it was that time in the first book he ended up inside the snake enclosure.
