-It was not all about slavery. It was mainly about preserving the union and setting the precedent that states are governed under one federal governments.
-African Americans were allowed to fight in segregated units to fight for their freedom. (For the north.)
-The civil war was mainly benefiting a small number of southern whites who controlled the plantations, thus slaves.
-Another reason why it began was because the north were heavily industrialized and the south feared their southern virtues threatened by the high tariffs invoked by northern products.
-A civil war could have been prevented if there was better negotiations between the trade rights, less radical and immediate actions by the abolitionists and less propaganda.
-Slavery could have ended without the civil war.

The South fired on Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861 initiating the conflict
The South had the better generals while the North had more more manpower , sustainable economy , railroads for transport and industrial strength
The turning point of the war was the voictories by the North on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg and at Vicksburg on July 4,1863 for the South was cut in two due to the dividion of the Mississippi or the Southern breadbasket.
The original intention of the North in the Civil War was the preservation of the Union. It was only after the battle of Antietam and narrow Union victory and a political move by Lincoln when he proposed the Emancipation Proclamation to take effect on January 1, 1863.
It took Grant's victories in 1864 and the march of Sherman to help secure the reelection of Lincoln in 1864.

1. Confederate President Jefferson Davis' middle name was "Finis," because his mother decided no more kids.

2. The last Yankee soldiers killed by a Confederate cannon ball were killed in 1942 when a World War II regiment from New England was billeted temporarily at Fort Sumpter in Charleston, SC. They were cold so they built a fire. One idiot (there is always at least one idiot) rolled an old Civil War cannon ball into the fire. It still had gunpowder in it. Boom.

3. The Conferate state where the most battle were fought: VA. The fewest: FL.

4. The Confederates attacked Vermont. Southern (or pro-southern) raiders from Canada crossed the border and robbed two Vermont banks.

5. In the last days of the Confederacy, they tried enlisting slaves. It didn't work very well.

As a Yankee, and if I lived back then, i'd have long gone with the North. Now as a Southerner and that i've got not got any regrets approximately leaving the North East and not in any respect desire to pass back, i'd stay right here. i do no longer think of there will be a secession. human beings down right here do no longer even think of the Civil conflict ended--i assume the thinking is "its no longer over till at last I win". The Dukes of probability are not the only ones flying the accomplice flag--I see them right here and there. This united states of america alongside with all of us different one is decrease than devil's administration and all will pass down. there is not any incorrect way for the dominion to be set up than for the eliminating of the present evil worldwide. I even have not got earthly existence-rights anymore. I gave them up whilst i grew to become into 17 as quickly as I gave my existence to the Lord and commenced the race for the intense calling. So the place the Lord vegetation me, i will improve.

It started in 1861. It ended in 1865. The Northern states were called the union. They were called Union solders and the other were Confederate soldiers. Here's something you probably don't know women fought in the war.
Perhaps the most poignant story about women in the Civil War is one told in the book Women in War , 1866, by Frank Moore. In 1863, at age 19, a woman known only as Emily, ran away from home and joined the drum corps of a Michigan Regiment. The regiment was sent to Tennessee and during the struggle for Chatanooga a minie ball pierced the side of the young soldier. Her wound was fatal and her sex was disclosed. At first she refused to disclose her real name but as she lay dying she consented to dictate a telegram to her father in Brooklyn. Forgive your dying daughter. I have but a few moments to live. My native soil drinks my blood. I expected to deliver my country but the fates would not have it so. I am content to die. Pray forgive me...... Emily.
