I once was in their shoes. I know what it's like and how easily you can end up there. Every month, I go to the bank and exchange a twenty for quarters and keep it in my pocket or car. I always give what I can because I understand what they're going through.
In the summer, I take my laptop down town and help them write up resumes, go home print a hundred of them and hand them back to who ever wants my help. Once a month, I bring a case of beer to the park and we have a few drinks.
They're people to. Just people who really need a break and really need a friend.

The Catholic church I attend allows members of the church to grab as many cupon books for the homeless people we see on the street (we live in downtown Seattle). Inside there is a couple meal cupons for McDonalds and Dairy Queen, etc. A free cupon for a room at a motel and a few other nice additions! I think that is WAY better than giving the homeless money....its a gesture of sincerity â¥
Another thing I like to do with girlfriends is if were walking down the street and a homeless man is playing paint buckets as drums..we start dancing right then and there! They start laughing and playing harder. They love it. Nothing like a positive attitude and a smile from a stranger to brighten even the crappiest day! â¥

Sometimes I do. And then sometimes I don't. There was this one time where I gave a homeless lady some change. She was really old and her knees were trembling, and you could tell that she clearly needed some help. I felt bad for her so I gave her some money. And then a couple of minutes later, I passed by her and I saw that she was buying a pack of cigarettes with my money.
Homeless people get sterotyped a lot. And I don't always agree with that. Everybody thinks that all of them are drug addicts and criminals, and whenever I see people asking for money on the streets, nobody has the courage to look them in the eye. They just pretend to ignore them. I do feel guilty when I see homeless people. And I've lived in India, so I have seen REAL poverty. Its just heartbreaking. But its so complicated sometimes. There are many of them who CAN afford to work and there are many of them who really do, desperately, need the money.

I try and help out in different ways than giving them money. If I see a homeless person with a sign saying he will work for food. I would rather give him the food to prevent him from spending the money on alcohol or drugs. Its harder for a homeless person to fight the urge because they have no support. By doing it that way, we will help them better understand that if you want real money, you have to clean yourself up and go looking for some type of work. I once knew a homeless guy who did just that. Cleaned up, went to every shop within a 2 mile radius, and asked if he could do some type of work for a few bucks. He made over $300 in one day and did no more work than the average janitor does. Its not ideal, but you can't be choosy in that situation.

If I see an homeless person on the street I give them £1, . A couple of years ago I was skint only had £4:00 to my name, it was winter and I felt sorry for this man who was obviously homeless, so I gave him £2:00, the other two I put on the lotto and won £2,678:00, I was waiting for number 11 to come out for the jackpot and number 21 came out instead. I was delighted. The next time I saw the tramp I gave him £10:00.

My company went out of town for a job and when we got to the hotel this really big lady asked us for change to make a phone call. My Buddie offered her the use of his cell phone but she explained she was going to be talking for a while. So we all gave her a little change (maybe 2 bucks). 5 minutes later we went to the vending machine and who do you think we saw? Yep candy bar in her mouth, another in her hand and money in the machine. This is a true story. So my answer to your question is no. I hate being lied to. Now these guys like you see in Vegas with the sign that says "why lie I need a beer" I may buy him a beer.

I just keep walking: I used to give change to homeless people, but then I thought of what a waste of my money it was, mostly the people I gave the money to just bought liquor or other alcoholic drinks with it.
