Well, everything in the natural world has already been done to death, so I recommend creating a god for a relatively modern thing, such as computers, TV or space travel.
A god of computers would live through each computer and protect the internet from viruses. Or, if people angered him, like using their computers for ill purposes, he would have the power to infect them with a virus or short out their computer.
A god of television would naturally live on the airwaves. Maybe on television satellites. He'd keep an eye on mortals through their TVs. And that's how he'd communicate with them, too.
A god of space travel would be the patron deity of astronauts and keep them safe on their missions. Such a deity would be venerated on space stations, shuttles and rockets.
There are other good ideas out there, too. Just look at something you use every day and pretend that you don't have science to explain it. Think of how you'd explain it on your own. That's how the ancients came up with all their various mythologies.

I had to answer this because in Freshman year I had to do the same thing, I wrote about the god of tests and quizes (kinda like the Sphinx) he is the one only the scholars would honor, I wrote about a man who wanted to become a king and had to answer the Sphinx's questions, then prayed to the god lol, don't know if it helps but that was mine, can't believe I remember it.
