about virgins and dead arising and a Heaven with golden streets and a Hell with fire and a mystical Satan and an egotistical God who wants to be worshipped and judges us while telling us we shouldn't do the same and all the other goofy stuff? Why not just say there is a God, and leave it at that? When you embellish it, you just turn thinking people off!

I know preachers like the fairy tales so they have something to talk about on Sundays and can earn their salaries, but I found when I attended a Catholic service that they can put in the time quite satisfactorily without talking about all that goofy stuff.

These religious sects arent God, but different peoples interperatation of how one should live. Thats how I feel. I think you right and thats how it somtimes feels to me. I do believe there is a force much more powerful than we are, whatever you want to call He, She or it. But as for all this hell, fire and damnation no i dont really believe in all that.

Everyone believes in different things and how they came about and everything that has to do with God. I am Baptist and my grandfather is a Baptist preacher. I used to not go to church as a teenager (rebelious) but after I got married and had my little one, I started going again and let me tell you what, it opened my eyes. But like I said everyone believes in so many different things today that no one knows what to believe. You can only believe what your heart lets you. Just don't give up faith and trust your heart.

Well I feel the same way. But for others, the myths and imagery you describe are very important to their spiritual experience. Horses for courses.

God doesn't have a religion, and I feel as if that might be quite significant.

I became christian at eight and I did it by myself. My family happened to go to a catholic church so it fitted in well. Sometimes the catholic church is good becasue it is non threatening. And the people r so lovely.
