Yesterday at my school, much to my suprise, we didn't acknowledge the terrorist attack victims, no moment of silence, nothing not even a mention.

The next day (today) I asked around and apperently people/places, such as schools, are trying to reduce the amount of attention it gets to relieve tention associated with the attacks.

What are your opinions on this? Should schools, especially mine in NY state which has more families affected by the attacks than most places, completely ignore 9/11 in hopes people will stop thinking about it? Was it disrespectful of our school to do this? I'm going to write an article in our schools news paper about this so I would appreciate everyone opinions.

9/11 happened my first year in High School and every year after that we had a moment of silence. For me, really thinking about that day still makes my eyes mist over. So yeah, I do think it's disrespectful to act like Sept. 11th was just another day.

I asked others here in New Zealand about how long they thought it had been since 9/11, most people were stunned to realise that is has been 6 years.

Humans have an amazing capacity for moving on with life and not so much forgetting as putting tragedy in a place where it can be dealt with in a functional way.

this is not to say that we should NOT pay respect to the fallen, but maybe now it is up to you personally to do this, rather than a public demonstration of grief.

If you want to do something, maybe you could get in contact with the fire crews or EMT workers union and find out what causes they have or what help they need?

Yes, yesterday was Patriot Day! I live in the South and while I didn't lose anyone I knew, I still harbor very hard feelings about what was done to our nation. I have visited New York twice in my life but both times were before the 9/11 tragedy. I wore my USA flag shirt and everything I had on yesterday, even my ponytail scrunchie was all red, white and/or blue to show that I am a Patriot and that this day should always be observed and never forgotten. It may have been six years ago that this catastrophic situation happened, but I cannot make myself have any respect at all for the Taliban, bin Ladin and all of the terrorists groups that killed and attacked other nations because the third-world countries don't respect our religious or cultural ways of life. I asked a nin year old girl if they talked about 9/11 in her elementary school and she said "no, I don't even know what it was because I was 2 when it happened." I then explained what happened to her. My teenage son said they talked about it a lot in his high school classes and they even had to write a paper expressing how 9/11 effected them. I try not to lump all Islamics into one catagory, but it is so very hard to know who is good and who is bad - another terrorist just lurking in the wings. In my opinion, 9/11 was a horrendous and totally uncalled for circumstance because so many of my nation's brothers and sisters (yes, America is one nation that still stands together in a major crisis) lost their lives and for no good reason. Plus people at the Pentagon lost loved ones, as well as the airplane that was hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania are tragedies that Americans should always remember and honor. It didn't have to be called World World III, but the devastation this incident caused is inexcusable behavior for anyone. God will probably strike me dead with lightening for saying this, but I think that if Osama bin Laden is ever found, that he should not serve a life sentence in jail, but be slowly tortured to death. I still believe in an 'eye-for-an-eye.' There is nothing that the Islams can ever do to make this up to the United States or for the tragedies that have recently happened in England. Needless to say, my mood yesterday was very solemn and I was proud to see every flag in my state flying at half-mast to honor the people that lost their lives, the survivors left behind, and the many people who worked to help rescue all the trapped people. As far as I am concerned, 9/11 is every bit as important as WWII was and I honor it just the same. There were several times that my eyes teared up just thinking about all the devastation that bin Laden and his Al Quaida idiots caused. It hurts me as much to this day as it did the day 9/11/01 happened. And I pray we never have to go through another experience like that as long as I live. God Bless all the people that were involved in 9/11/01 and to the Devil with Iraq and all of the crazy, stupid, fundamental Islamics that are still out there plotting away! God Bless America -- the home of the free and the brave!
