Yesterday at my school, much to my suprise, we didn't acknowledge the terrorist attack victims, no moment of silence, nothing not even a mention.

The next day (today) I asked around and apperently people/places, such as schools, are trying to reduce the amount of attention it gets to relieve tention associated with the attacks.

What are your opinions on this? Should schools, especially mine in NY state which has more families affected by the attacks than most places, completely ignore 9/11 in hopes people will stop thinking about it? Was it disrespectful of our school to do this? I'm going to write an article in our schools news paper about this so I would appreciate everyone opinions.

Our family lost three members on 9-11. One lived in Pennsylvania and the other two were New Yorkers. You're absolutely right. A lot of the victims came from New York state. I think your school is trying to diminish any stress, but I also think they could have given one minute of silence for all of the victims. I'm glad you're going to write an article about it. It's so good to see young people involved in today's world's issues.

I'm really shocked that your school didnt have a minutes silence or sth.
I live in Cyprus (im english Cypriot) and i remember we were starting a new year in school 2 days after it happenned, i was 16 and i can just remember the unrest it caused, its a day that changed our whole civilization for some people in a negative way and for others in a positive, it just depended how you react to it.
I remember watching the news like a week after and there were muslims from NY saying that they were being mocked and blamed by people who were taking out the frustrations on the wrong people, and i just thought this is horrible it managed to stir up some racial hatred and how evil of these terrorists not only to kill so many in such a horriffic way but to cause everlasting damage.

I think schools around the world should have a moments silence for this tragedy, i dont see why people should forget about 9/11 even if they dont commemirate it with a moments silence we still remember, and their are a few positives that America can take from this awful tragedy, such as how the country pulled together, what a brilliantly brave job your firefighters did, how so many civilized countries united to condemn these attacks. I think it was very disrespectful of your school not to aknowledge this date with something in honour of the victims, i cant see why they wouldnt

Yeah same thing happened to me at school, and half of the kids completely forgot what had happened on that very day! Its really sad, that day is one of the most memorable to me and I was only 7! I also found it very disrespectful that the school didn't even mention 9/11! It's wrong to ignore it, because it did happen. I also think it may be a culture type issue because on the west coast they did mention it and have a moment of silence. Now I live on the east coast and they seem to set it aside, there are quite a few differences I've noticed!

Our school never says the pledge of allegiance. We did have a moment of silence though. Also, we watched a video in Government showing some reasons why 9/11 happened. I now have a better idea about why so many people around the world hate the US. We do a lot of evil stuff to other countries. The movie clip was from "Bowling for Columbine." Haven't seen it all yet, watching it in class. Enlightening in a world of religious conservative nationalists.

Our school made no mention of this day, either. Which is quite sad because we were all too young to understand what this was. So we have to learn from someone like a parent or the internet. You think this would give the teacher a GREAT opportunity to tell us all about it, concidering most of the people I know just know, "Well a plane hit the Twin Towers and people died" Most don't know about the hijackings, the pentagon being hit or what a terrible day it was.

I think it is very disrespectful of your school to not mention anything about the attacks. Why wouldn't they? Especially a school in NY. I would have been pissed. It amazes me how quick people forget, like it never happened. Than you have some idiots that think our Government had something to do with it, or it was Bush's fault. Bottom line It should be a day of Rememberance - So nobody forgets!

We did have a moment of silence - like 20 seconds. But it's the thought that counts, I guess. I'm not sure why schools would want to limit the recognition, giving a week off for, say, Easter, should be more controversial.

yes, i think that schools should have a moment of silence to remember those people to die. It is an insult to their memory if we don't give our moment of silence. we should never forget something this horrible. Not only should we remember these people, we should acknowledge the brave soilders that died or are serving in the war right now. They are serving us by protecting our rights that the terrorist broke at 9/1.1 It is a shame for any American to forget what happened. Those people who died were mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, daughters, sons, cousins, aunt, uncle and citizens to our country, one of our own. I live in Massachusetts and my school had a moment of silence.

The school students are being CHEATED ! The liberals run the schools, they are afraid of offending everyone, especially Muslims! Why ? This is AMERICA, not the middle east. I was a senior in high school (long time ago) before I found out George Washington wanted to be King, not the first president of the USA. Fact.
