Niles is a very safe area, it is a north suburb of Chicago. It has a large russian population in its northern section as well as Oriental and Indian. There is a lot of clubs and bars, also a lot of shopping with two large shopping malls and countless shopping malls in the area. There is a forrest preserve area with long bike trails and places to picnic. It is a very nice and safe neighborhood to live in with easy access to public transportation and highways if you want to get to ohare or downtown.

I grew up in the town north of Niles. There is a lot of shopping, i.e. Golf Mill and Village Crossing. There is also a free bus which goes all over town. There are some cheap grocery stores. Niles is fairly safe. A lot of their crime has to do with the mall.

Niles is right next to Skokie and the Sauganash neighborhood of Chicago. I actually love it, and there are tons of forest preserves around where you can bike and hang out with the family on a summer day. It's safe, and close to cool towns like Winnetka, Evanston, and Chicago where you have access to everything! Skokie is getting pretty built up, so you can buy everything you need closeby but with some pretty fantastic ethnic restaurants (If you like Thai, try Thai Elephant on Devon--or anything on Devon for that matter). Make sure to drive by Queen of All Saints on Devon--it's massive and pretty cool to see even if, like me, you're not Catholic! Focus your social life on Evanston and the north side of Chi-town if you're looking for ease and convenience. Evanston's got a great movie theatre, and tons of restaurants. There's one I went to and loved (of course I can't remember the name)--it's at the train station in downtown Evanston, and was amazing! NYC quality continental food in the middle of a lovely town!

Except for the fact that someone stole my purse at Golf Mill Shopping Center, it is safe and convenient.
