He discovered that life is the exertion toward consistency with what is real. So he added a Sanskrit word that means intention to the law of how everything operates discovered seven hundred years earlier by a Chinese scholar named The Great Teacher Tientai.
With that word Namu added to the title of the Lotus Sutra it became possible for ordinary people to have a way to open their enlightenment.
