are you going to get her a mum or a corsage? a mum is one of those things that have the enormous flower in the middle with the flowing ribbons and what not that are in your school colors and have various things like bells and footballs hanging off of it. if you get one of those, don't get it too big because if she wants to wear it to school or to the dance, then she'll probably not want it to be so heavy it weighs down her dress or makes her trip. plus they're way more expensive than a corsage. when i was a jr in high school my date got me a mum and it kept pulling my top down (i had a tube dress).
if you want to get her a corsage find out what color her dress is. if you don't know, ask one of her friends. if they don't know, then white is the safest thing you can do. you can pick up a white corsage at most florists at any time, but you can also order one to ensure you get it on time and that it looks right. don't get one that pins to her dress, get one that goes on the wrist. the ones that pin on a lapel are for men and old ladies at weddings. bring an extra safety pin with you in case the wrist band is too big for her. that way you can pin it smaller so she can wear it without worrying it will fall off, slip, or get in the way. call a local florist and ask them what their availability is on corsages, how much, and when the best time to purchase one would be.
when you go to pick her up, don't be shy about giving her the corsage or mum. a corsage is less awkward because if you have to pin anything on her dress it can be uncomfortable for you and your date (and probably her dad) with your hands that close to her breasts. open the box, have her hold out her wrist and place it on her, don't make her do it herself.

here are some color guidelines for you:

if her dress is black or white: any color
if her dress is red: white or red
if her dress is blue: white or yellow
if her dress is green: white or red
if her dress is gold or silver: white but you could really do any color i just think white is the classiest
if her dress is purple: white, yellow or pink

you could also find out what her favorite color is and base your choice off of that.

make sure you tell her she looks nice and that you like her dress (even if you hate her dress)

i hope you have fun and good luck!

First of all you need to know the color of your dates dress so you can match the corsage then order it right away. Some girls like the kind that go on their wrists so they can slow dance without messing up the flower(s). Ask your date her preference and what kind of flowers she likes so you can get them and make her happy. Also be sure to get yourself a matching boutonniere.

For my homecoming, my husband have been given me pink roses with toddler's breaths (my gown grew to become into pink), and the little strings that dangle from the corsage grew to become into black considering the incontrovertible fact that grew to become into my college colour. i think of with a blue gown you will possibly seem large with some white roses and in step with possibility your strings could be your college colorings :) have exciting!

find out what color dress the girl is wearing and find something to compliment that, Just go to the florist and speak with someone in there, they will help you decide what type, is it going on her wrist or the dress, etc. also they will help you find something suitable in your price range
