My major is Mass Communications and I'm transferring to UCSD for next fall semester 2008.

I don't know which college I'm supposed to apply to and even though I'm looking at the site right this instant about all the different colleges...it doesn't tell me anything!

I don't know where to look for that information. I just want to look for what majors fall into which colleges.

I know there's no Mass Communications major at UCSD, so Communications is just fine...I just really want to know which college that's in.

Thanks so much!

There are six colleges at UCSD but you can choose any major you want, regardless of your school. Basically your school determines your on-campus housing location, if you plan to live on campus, and your GE requirements. You will be taking classes with other Communications majors and you won't know their college unless they tell you.

Most transfer students pick Warren since they have no additional GE requirements after transferring. They also have the largest number of housing for transfers. But double check these because they may have changed since I was there. Otherwise, take a look at the GE requirements at differenent colleges and pick the one that coincides the most with your interests because each school has a central "theme". (I am sure they have a fancier word for it than theme.)

When I read your question -- my immediate thought was "Wow -- what an idiot -- she can't find something as simple as that!"

Then I looked at their web site. It is horrible. That being said -- it is a great school.

I did find the Communications Department web site (after searching for a while). There is a link at the bottom of the page that gives you more information about applying to the Communications program. If it still isn't clear, my advice is to send an Email to the Communicetions department or the Admissions office asking them which college is best for applying to the program.

My guess is that you can do this degree from multiple colleges. Their college system looks more like the English system than the American system (which segregates colleges by major).

Goo luck.

In case it isn't clear -- I don't think you are an idiot.

I am a UCSD alumnus. I graduated from Marshall College in 1988, back when it was simply Third.

Major has no relationship to college. The college basically determines your general education requirements, and where you will live if you get on-campus housing. It has no effect on your major. It should be noted that combining a difficult major with Revelle College make it impossible to graduate in four years.

Choose a College whose educational philosophy that you like: Revelle encourages widespread study, Warren want's two minors, but little else, and in my day, Third college required a lot of social studies - "Societal Analysis"
