I just started my first semester at community college, just taking gen ed classes until I transfer. The thing is...I HATE school. I can't concentrate on any of the writing assignments for English. And my math teacher...nice guy, but being from Africa, I can hardly understand a thing that's going on in that class! I knew this wasn't gonna be a walk in the park, but every day I go to college I wish I could be back in high school.

The college grades will matter in the short term especially - when you are looking for your first job based on your degree, if you want to go on and get another degree, etc. As time goes by, the grades will matter less, and the piece of paper will be the most significant thing. Do try to get the best grades you possibly can.

It's a bit of a mix. Of course, just getting the degree is the most important thing; however, increasingly employers (especially in the first few years after college) do consider GPA/grades as some indication of ability when reviewing CVs.

The first couple of weeks of college can be a really difficult transition. Don't worry too much about it if you aren't thrilled with college yet. Give yourself time to get used to it. Also, if you are having problems in a class, talk to the professor. I'm sure s/he would be really happy to help you in any way possible.

Good luck! I hope it gets better for you.

There are a few jobs where grades matter. If you want to go to graduate school -- then they matter a lot.

But for the most part, just getting the degree is what is important.

The good news for you is that college gets better as you get into the advanced classes in your major.

Grades matter. It's hard to believe, but people like the convenience of judging you by a number.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd hide in my room all the time and study non-stop. Even if it hurt my social skills, maybe I'd be able to pick them up later, because you find out later in life there's a perfect progression you're supposed to take. If you fall off the track, it's hard to get back on.

A lot of employers want to know your academic performances.
Do not think of school as something you HAVE to do. Think of school as something you WANT to do because you do want to graduate right? And you do WANT to get a good job afterwards?
College grades matter. Do your best. If you do not understand, ask for help.
