Please rank the following pitchers from best on down. Think of it as a draft knowing exactly what kind of career they will have. Please provide some basic reasoning behind your rankings - reasoning that extends beyond "He rocks!" :-)

I'm not saying these are the 4 greatest hurlers of all time so please refrain including pitchers I have not mentioned. Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses. Alphabetically the pitchers are:

Roger Clemens
Greg Maddux
Nolan Ryan
Tom Seaver

Roger Clemens - Considered by most every baseball expert as the 3rd greatest pitcher in baseball history. His K's and career ERA are exceptional plus he can intimidate hitters like few have been able to.

Tom (Terrific) Seaver - Had the best mechanics of any pitcher I ever saw. 300 plus wins, over 3000 K's and a fantastic career ERA under 3. He was money!

Greg Maddux - One of the best pitchers of his era. 4 Cy Young awards and 340 plus wins. His great fortune has been that he has been playing on some great Braves teams. He could pass Clemens on the total win list one day.

Nolan Ryan - The most overrated pitcher in baseball history. Win a career win-loss record slightly over .500 he was very hitable. When he was on, he was good but when he wasn't he was just a one dimensional pitcher. With 7 no-hitter and nearly 6000 K's (5710 K's I think), he was someone to fear. However he never could win the big game. Ref: 1980 NLCS game 5 when the Phillies beat his brains in.

Roger Clemens-2 WS titles, 7 Cy Young awards, 350+ wins and over 4500 K's, he is the most dominant pitcher of the last 30 yrs of baseball.

Tom Seaver-300+ wins, 3 Cy Youngs and 3600K's and a World Series title

Nolan Ryan-all-time strikeout king 5714K's, 324 wins with some AWFUL teams and a World Series title (which was won with Seaver and the Mets in '69)

Greg Maddux-true, he has the Cy Youngs (4), 345 wins and 3600K's and a title with the Braves, but who would you rather face...Maddux with his breaking ball at 80MPH or Nolan Ryan throwing 100MPH under your chin??

This could be the greatest right-handed rotation of all-time. Can you imagine if all these guys played on the same team at the same time??

Ryan-I believe that he had the most talent out of all of them but just didn't get the wins because the teams he played for were horrible. I saw in a Sports illustrated By the Numbers column that he threw out the first pitch at a minor legue game earlier this season and hit 83 on the radar gun.

Seaver- Great stuff like all of these pitchers and got it done at an old age.

Clemens-Great pitcher with a ton of wins and great stuff. Falling off tis season though and that hurts his status in my mind.

Maddux-He just gets it done. At best average stuff but knows how to use it and is the best prepared pitcher. Also a good fielder.

1. Roger Clemens - 3.13 ERA, 4600 K's, 4900 IP, 1.17 WHIP

2. Tom Seaver - 2.86 ERA, 3640 K's, 4800 IP, 1.12 WHIP

3.Greg Maddux - 3.09 ERA, 3300 K's, 4800 IP, 1.14 WHIP

4. Nolan Ryan - 3.19 ERA, 5714 K's, 5400 IP, 1.25 WHIP

I dunno, I just kinda let the numbers speak for themselves since no one else has. Clemens gets the top spot for being in, what what feel was a slightly more difficult era for pitchers. Plus he misses more bats, making for a better chance of a dominant performance. Nolan Ryan hurt himself over his career for always thinking about the strikeout. He walked way too many guys, inflating some of his numbers (WHIP, and as a result, ERA.)

In their prime years I would rank them:
1-Seaver
2-Clemens
3-Ryan
4-Maddux
All are HOF quality pitchers and very equal in talent in different ways.
