Find the area. Write an expression.?

Question

Write two expressions for the area covered by the tiles, one with parentheses and one without parentheses.

The rectangles are 1x a piece. The 1 squares are 1.

I'm not to good with algebra tiles. I need a little help here. Its that last problem left on my homework.

Simple counting gives 4x + 2
Counting rows gives 2(2x + 1)
