I know what happened to the native americans that did sign the treaties...i.e: reservations...and being cheated and forced to give up their land....I cant find any websites of testimonies ( or what not) of people having ancestors that stayed on the land...the only things i can think of are: 1. native americans being killed by the settlers if they didnt sign the treates...and 2. the benefits of the treaties of they signed them ( ex: school, money etc....) can you guys help me out and think of more things that happened to native americans that did sign the treaties? thanks!!!

Basically whether or not they signed a treaty, the Indians were forced to move--unless no whites wanted the land such as the Everglades in Florida. If the Indians didn't move, they were killed or assimilated into white culture.

Indian schools took Indian children from their families and made them learn white culture.

For the most part, only the "chiefs" or important tribal leaders of one sort or another signed the treaties. Red Cloud was one such person; not only was he not a chief, he wasn't even a warrior! (Though not many would choose to fight him in a fair combat!) Red Cloud signed a treaty giving him his "two mountains" (basically, the eastern half of Wyoming, southeast Montana, western South Dakota, and the part of Nebraska north of the Platte River all the way to the Missouri river) but everyone else in his Hunkpapa tribe got to go to the Rez (it is still there, near Rapid City...)
Like white children before them, native children were forced at gunpoint to attend school and learn the white man's ways, but were not given a white man's life style.
(Remember that the next time your school district wants to raise taxes for a new building or whatever: if public schools are so great, why did it take soldiers with fixed bayonets to get children to attend?)
So many natives never did settle onto the Rez...little by little, they were assimilated into the American culture, and for the most part, did much better than those on the Rez.
But, that is a generalization...

Many tribes that even did conform were killed . Please check into the story (stories) of Chief Joseph and The Nez Peirce. (The Trail of tears, I will fight no more.) I think they will give you a very good picture of Native American Tribes in the 1800's!
