Bin Laden is clearly causing maximum damage with little investment. According to the CIA he is planning more attacks. The thing with Bin Laden is that he believes that those who do not follow his version of fundamentalist Islam should be eliminated. He hates the US and will continue to attack us.

Here's an objective, helpful site you should check out.

Does spending on the war somehow cause our deficit to grow ? Yes. The war has cost somewhere in the vacinity of $750 billion. That's approximate 6% of the US GDP in 2006 - alot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_United_States

If you look at WWII as a comparison, the war cost approximately $2 trillion in 1990 dollars (adjusted for inflation to 1990). The GDP in 1990 was approximately $5.8 trillion. That's a 36% portion of GDP! A massive amount. Note: There were a total of 59 million causalties in WWII. We lost 500,000 soldiers compared to Russia losing 26 million. Germany lost 7 million. - all before nuclear weapons in Europe.

My point is that Al-Qaida is not currently even close to bankrupting America. WWII didn't bankrupt the US (if it were fought on our soil, that might have been a different story). However, with nuclear weapons, they could wipe out a few cities and start another world war.

The issue with Iraq is that essentially all of the Middle East hates Israel and is gearing up for a nuclear showdown with them. We need a major presence in that part of the world to stop another world war. The US has an obligation to defend Israel. Countries stood by and didn't try to stop Germany until it was too late. It's the same issue with Ahmadinejad.

It's the same strategy
Al Qaida used against Russia keep them fighting until they go bankrupt. Hence the fall of the Soviet Union.
The OBL started winning the Day the Patriot Act was enacted.

Impressive numbers are they not?

Al Qaida could spend 10 times that amount even 1000 times that amount and still would only crack the surface of how much wealth the US has and generates daily.

The national debt is almost meaningless. The us gov sells bonds.. US savings bonds.. heard of them? this is how the government borrows money (and increases national debt) Most of this money the US Government owes is to its own citizens and China actually has bought up alot of our debt. The only way that the US would become bankrupt is if China asked for all its money back and all the people in the US turned in their savings bonds at the same time. Think about this real hard (i know its tough for little kids to comprehend money matters figures) Why would anyone in their right mind decide to do this. Say the chinese want their money back they are not going to ask for it all at once because it would hurt the US economy AND THEIR OWN INVESTMENT! get it? the us economy goes down...the entire world would suffer. The US Gov can borrow as much as it wants. Though its a smart thing to never owe more than what your owed. and guess what!? we are owed more than what we are owe... I know this is hard for you..but really think about it.

I was reminded of how Reagan got credited with winning the cold war, it was said that he had the old USSR spending all its cash in an arms race and that was what bankrupted the country.
I wonder if Bin Ladin remembered that too.

Yes, unfortunately they are winning. What's more, they are absolutely gleeful that we're spending all our money in Iraq, so we don't eye them very much. Al-Qaeda, thru Bush, has convinced every republican and con that they are "not a threat." Do THEY remember 9/11?

You miss a few points:

1) The amount of money that other countries owe us DWARVES what we owe them. Everyone has a national debt. We hold more of their debts than anyone.

2) Our nation is growing, the world is growing, prices go up. WHY does this surprise you?

They spent $500,000 on 9/11.

We've cost them billions, whether in Iraq, or in Afghanistan or around the world in opium crops, equipment, the 6 to 1 ratio of deaths (6 of them to 1 of us), in terms of held accounts.

Why would you deliberately leave all that out?

Do you have a different agenda than the truth, or were you just careless?

You seem to have chosen sides. So have we.

Since al-Qaida has Bush's full cooperation, yes.

Not to mention Bush's support for the dictator of Pakistan who is giving al-Qaida--and bin Ladin--sanctuary.

WE are doing it ourselves.

How far you can go without destroying from within what you are trying to defend from without?
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.
