In your dream, try and pinch yourself. Did you feel that? Now when your awake try and pinch yourself. That my dear is reality

(Unfortunately, I always pinch myself in my dreams to see if I'm dreaming, and I feel it!)

As a philosophical and "absolute" question, there is no answer to that question IMO.

But practically speaking, when I was writing my dreams down and just basically "paying" attention to them, I found that my "reality" mind began getting closer to my dreaming/creative mind, and my dreaming mind did the opposite. In other words, the two worlds and two "minds" got closer and closer together, feeling like a more and more "whole" me. . . a quite nice feeling, and also fruitful in terms of creativity and awareness.

There are different levels among people though, different personality types, and different amounts of practice ... some barely remember dreams or swear they never have them (though sleep labs show they do), where some people can even learn to be "lucid" in their dreams, etc, etc.

Then there's all the stuff that goes on when one is deprived of oxygen, or various brain traumas or diseases are present, or drugs taken, etc., that can change "reality" and dreaming, etc.

Great question, i could say in little and obvious words that dream is more like a desire and your mind and spirit are what separate that dream from reality just like mind and spirit are separated from your body, shurely its a very deep concept that can be well explained.

A dream is something your mind imagines. Reality really happens.
