If we do not remember the lessons of these events, and keep vigilant, we are doomed to relive them again. It doesn't matter politics, or religion, or being a citizen of whatever country. There are people who hate so much that they don't care who they kill or if they die themselves for their cause. They have been found here and abroad, and will stop at nothing until we (free people) have been killed or succumbed to their whims.

it is important that we understand for TWO reasons:

1> so that we understand what happened and WHY it happened, and

2> so we can do things to try to prevent such an occurrence from ever happening again.

from your question, you would have us re-write the history books and make the Japanese and the Nazis of the 1930's and 1940's just some misunderstood patriots--NEVER AGAIN, I say

So that people of today, tomorrow and the far off future will learn from historys past mistakes and never repeat them again or allow it to occur again.
