Its an nes game, you start outside a castle, its first person and the hand is a skeleton hand, you go through the castle by pushing A on doorways. And you have torches that can run out if you dont lite another one, and if you die, death comes. Soooo, Hope that info helps explains it.

It's definitely Shadowgate. I actually still have a copy of this game. I was never very good at it, I guess the whole "point and click" style game isn't for me. Here is an image of the start up screen:

Yes shadowgate sounds like it. maybe look it up (shoadowgate i mean) on youtube or google for screenshots.
Youtube has the whole game being played by a bot so.. maybe that might help you cause maybe it will show that one part you know of.

it reminds me of an old game i used to play on my (very) old pc, called "Catacombs" but I don't think it's the same as the one you're talking about.
