Lately, its been extremely hard for me to deal with all the horrible things which happen in this world -- murderers, rapists, etc. I can't seem to get it off my mind and I am saddened by all the evil which exists in this world. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can stop constantly thinking about this and focus on more positive things? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts so far. I really appreciate the input. I actually am a very positive person. But, unfortunately/fortunately, I heard about 'The Secret' and rented the DVD. It talks about the law of attraction, that what you think about attracts other similar thoughts and that you eventually become what you think about most. Ever since then, I have been scared sh*tless because I have a hard time only having positive thoughts and do not want the negative things I think about to happen. According to 'The Secret', it doesn't matter if the thoughts you have are positive or negative .. just the mere frequency of the thoughts, whether positive or negative .. they will manifest. This is really scary to me. I have to stop my negative thoughts, but its really hard to control my thoughts.

The concepts of "Good" and Evil" are an erroneous cognitive perspective. They form a dichotomy. Dichotomies are human-made concepts and they never lead to any good. A healthier perspective is to view the world as a natural condition. Nature has basal, or, fundamental rhythms of survival. Those rhythms are neither "good" nor "evil". They are natural and neutral. What is better to perceive as "Goodness" is our human species' gradual rise above the vagaries of those natural rhythms and the sufferings they include. We do like to be shivering cold or feverish hot or frightened or hungry or sick or lonely. So, we began to look around us in our world for better ways to survive. We explore, learn, adapt and have gradually grown less uncomfortable. We learned how to build shelters in any environment and clothes and medicines and crops. Oh, we have made many errors and we have much to learn. But, what is "Goodness" is that rise above the savage. We rose above cannibalism, human sacrifice and slavery. We have much to learn, yet, as a species and as individuals. What is "Good" is the effort to rise above those things in ourselves and in the world around us that causes us misery. The misery is not evil. It just IS. In this healthier perspective, there is only the pursuit of goodness. That is how you deal with misery. You continue to rise above it a little every day as an individual and as a member of society. Stay focused on that pursuit, revel in your progress and our species' progress, and do not lament the misery. And, you will be balanced and healthy.

Being aware of the suffering of others is unbearable if it reduces you to helplessless. How you deal with this while still retaining your compassion has been the crux of many great religions from Buddhism to Christianity and beyond.

In order to begin, the individual must act individually. Be humble enough to start with a small, personal act of kindness. This act of kindness will be a source of nourishment for your soul. In the same way, accept kindness from others with grace, and this will be a gift to the giver.

When in crisis, you must concentrate on your next step. If it takes you a little closer to your goal, then it's a good thing. Then take another. Even saints and holy people have their times of darkness.

The important thing is to get outside your own perspective and see from the other's point of view. Those who suffer have a lot to teach. Learn from them.

Of course neither you nor anybody can deal with all the evil in the world all at once, at least by yourself. But you can make a difference in the life of one other person, and then another. These things have a way of snowballing. Soon some of those you have helped will begin to help others, too.

For me to deal with it, I have to realize that evil is short-lived. Someday, there will be no more evil in this world. I also remember that there is still so much love, joy, and good in the world too.

Yes, you must learn to hear about bad things without absorbing them into your psyche. Look for all the good, thank everyone who helps you, even if they open a door for you, you can put good in your life and then the bad stuff on tv will have to take care of itself. It's called serenity. You can't change what's bound to occur. And you'll be healthy in your body and mind if a friend needs you or if you need you. I had breast cancer. If I had worried myself sick about the stuff happening in the world, I'd be dead. Be a little selfish, and take care of you.

Do something positive to make you remember it starts wiht one person to help and the millions of people liek you that are trying ot make it all right. You can't fix every problem but you can try to help with what you can. I think that is enough to feel at least alright with yourself. Try and help as much as you can, it also stops you form overthinking all these situations. Good luck dude...peace and love!

look at it this way ,, if you were born a rattlesnake , you would go threw life alone , everybody who bumped into you, would try to kill you , and life for you would demand that you poison the unsuspecting , the word ME would be the equil to evil,, nothin you can do about it , you were born that way , should you be distroid , if so, should your mother too ,,, I say watch your step , if you acidently step on one ,, well ,,, its not good but it's better for you then standing too close to one,, ,,,,,but evil exists and cant help itself in order to servive it will harm you , watch your step and try not to act that way yourself ....
