Anything you can do to lighten your truck will help your gas mileage...(aluminum wheels, fiberglass hood) I have also heard that running Iridium spark plugs can improve MPG. I have also tinkered with the idea of changing tire size....go one size taller, and one size skinnier at the same time....the extra height of the tire will lower your engine RPM's, and a skinnier tire will have less rolling resistance because less tread is contacting the pavement. Try to remove your belt driven fan and install an electric one...it will take some strain off of your engine not having to turn the fan. I agree with the previous answerer saying to install a tonneau cover...or a mesh tailgate. I also improved 8 MPG by drafting every single 18-wheeler I could get behind. They usually run 65-70, so that will help limit your speed and save more gas. If you can't find an 18-wheeler, get behind anything that is bigger than you (SUV, van, jacked-up truck) You could also go to a smaller gear ratio....going from 4.10 to 3.23 gears will DRASTICALLY lower your engine RPM's at highway speed. Granted, you will lose a little acceleration doing this. Anyway, hope that helps, and good luck!

Get rid of the 305 and install a 350--bet the mileage improves and so does the performance. You can throw all the stuff at the 305 and will not improve because it doesn't have the power to pull it.

change the O2 sensor, gap the spark plugs, change the fuel filter, clean the throttle body and intake manifold, change the PCV valve, get the fuel injection system cleaned by a GOOD HONEST mechanic. also look take off the oil cap and see if it has allot if varnish and sludge if it does than this means that the car was not properly maintained. A dirty engine is an inefficient engine.

Try an O2 sensor, when they fail your engine will run in "choke mode" and it won't always give a check engine light. Take it into a shop for a professional checkup/tuneup

Get rid of the solid tailgate, or put a a tanou (can't spell it) cover. You get allot of wind resistance with the solid tailgate.

DO THIS BECAUSE I HAVE HAD SO MANY CUSTOMER ALWAYS FORGET IT UNLESS I ASK THEM.
HAVE THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED, IT MANY SOUND FUNNY BUT IF THE VEHICLE IS OFF JUST THE SLIGHTEST IT WILL REDUCE THE GAS MILEAGE.
