In a one gallon tank, there really isn't enough room to set up a community - you should have at least a 10 gallon to do this. Most of the smaller fish that are available (neons, danios, rasboras, cherry barbs) are schooling fish, and you should keep these in groups of at least 6. About the only suitable fish that aren't schooling are guppies, and males, with their longer fisn, may be mistaken for another betta by your fish. Also, you'd need to have a filter and heater for a community setup (you should already have a heater since the betta is a tropical fish and their water should be 76-86o).

Your betta was probably shaken up by the fall. If he was put back into water right away, he should be okay, but if he was out of water for a while, you may want to keep an eye on him for possible fungal infections. Adding a little salt (without iodine) at about 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water wouldn't hurt him, and it can help prevent an infection.

1 gallon is not enough for any community tank. In fact, it's barely enough for your betta. He should have a 2.5 gallon tank minimum... 1 gallon accumulates waste very fast and leads to high concentrations of ammonia.

If you got a 5 gallon tank, you could put in ONE of the following combinations:

1 betta and 1 African Dwarf Frog
1 betta and 1 mystery snail
1 betta and 3 cory catfish
1 betta and 3 otoclincus catfish
1 betta and 2 ghost shrimp

If you got a 10 gallon tank, your stocking options would be much wider. In addition to the fish and other animals I mentioned above, you could also have rasboras, platys, mollies, white cloud mountain minnows as well as various types of danios and tetras.

you are able to shop a betta in a a million/2 gallon tank... yet you fairly shouldn't. purely such as you are able to desire to maintain a cat in a cage. A cat would desire to stay in a cage, regardless of the undeniable fact that it does no longer stay very long, nor would or no longer this is greater advantageous than chuffed. Fish shops shop betas housed in small boxes through fact they are greater handy to exhibit there. they are additionally aggressive fish, so preserving all of them in guy or woman 5 gallon aquariums would take up too lots room. additionally, the petstores intend for the bettas to be bought and pass directly to greater ideal residences. The petstore isn't an enduring domicile for them. one greater gallon or 2 does no longer take up lots greater area. you ought to describe on your mom why you desire to supply him an even bigger domicile, and be a in charge puppy proprietor. teach her which you probably did the study :) i'm effective she'll relish your duty! So, back, sure your betta will stay in a a million/2 gallon. it won't stay the ten years that they might whilst given swimming room and the tropical atmosphere from which they arrive from. yet they're going to survive for awhile.

1 gallon is only large enough for the betta alone. If you want a community tank, I would recommend no less than 10 gallons.
