Finger and brushes. I'd say brush first then use finger to do fixes. I don't know how good the brush at CVS is but there is a difference between foundation brushes. Some are thicker and fuller. The ones that are too full might not be too good cuz it will soak up a lot of foundation. Some the bristles are too hard so it won't blend right. You might want to try some out or research for a good foundation brush. Sponges soak up too much foundation therefore wasting them so you go thru the bottle faster. Personally I don't use foundation. I use tinted moisturizer and I apply it with a brush from Smashbox and it's fine. Some of the brushes from Target is good also. You might want to try that.

like to use a sponge, because I wear only a tiny bit of foundation around my nose and on my chin, and I've found that the kind of small sponge that comes in a foundation compact is easiest for dabbing, which is how I apply it. (And I wash the sponge frequently.) But many makeup artists prefer using their fingers and suggest you do, too, because your hands warm the foundation, helping it melt into your complexion. At a beauty event not long ago, we were given a foundation brush, which I tried, partly because they were so encouraging and partly because I didn't want to seem like a stick-in-the-mud. Now I know why you might want to use a brush: It's contoured so you can reach areas like the corners of your nose (I never knew the nose had corners; did you?) and right up under your lower lashes, which can be hard to get at evenly with your fingers or a sponge. So what am I saying here? I use a sponge, but a brush is good, and using your fingers gives a more even application.

Bottom line: There's no best way to apply foundation. Try them all. Have fun. Find what you like best.

Use a Brush.

Sponges make you waste about a third of your foundation.

Wash your brush regularly so you do not contaminate your foundation in the bottle.

Do not use your fingers. They are too strong and you stretch your skin when applying it . It does not happen with a brush.

Buy the brush and read the directions how to use it. Most people use it wrong.

Brushes!!
Sponges soak up the make up and waste it (but I use them on occasion). Top professional artists usually advise not using your fingers because you don't realize how hard you're rubbing and tugging your skin, which will show up down the line as wrinkles, dark circles, etc.

You can wash your brushes but DONT use synthetic hair, it has to be natural hair. Washed sponges grow bacteria so does synthetic hair. If you apply it right with a brush you will not get streaks. I have using brushes for 15 years. You're not supposed to use so much foundation that it streaks. And using powder foundation locks in the liquid foundation to keep it from creasing in the eyes or getting overly runny on hot days.

The best way are with sponges because it will stay on longer and you get more of a sleeker look. You dont really want to use your hands because you might put too much on one side of your face then the other.

Buy disposable triangle sponges from Wal-Mart! They are cheap, and they beat reusable sponges - which can harbor bacteria that cause PIMPLES, and your fingers - which transfer oil to your face - which the bacteria that cause acne FEED OFF OF!
If you want a great brush, buy one, but don't forget to clean it with antibacterial soap or special brush cleaner to stay free of breakouts!

i prefer a wet sponge to all others...
you should dip the sponger in water and squeeze out the water from the sponge.. then pour some foundation in your left hand and dip the wet sponge into that and evenly rub over your face... it gives the same color thoughout the face and the application is easy too...

fingers work the best. you could start with a brush or sponge and then finish with your fingers.
