I'm 20 years old now, and personally don't smoke. But my mom has been smoking as long as I can remember (only I didn't realize that the smell in her bedroom was marijuana until around my junior year in high school when a friend pointed it out. haha) She's a very good person and we are in a really nice, successful middle class family. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It is far better a thing to do than drinking and is not as bad as smoking cigarettes because of all the chemicals in them. My mom always smokes before bedtime... it's a relaxation thing. The only thing wrong with it is that it's illegal... which it shouldn't be!

I haven't heard of a direct link to bad health and marijuana smoking. I also won't tell you that you are a bad mother or wife. What i will tell you is that you make a conscience decision everyday to break the law, and be a drug user. If you get busted, be prepared to loose your kids to social services, and possibly do some jail time. Best of luck with your life.

No, it's not that bad.
As long as you don't over do it and start forgetting about your family and your life - maybe don't do it in front of the kids .. haha
But no. It's not bad. My husband and I do it 3 times a month maybe ... and we are very successful people. It's just like someone else going out to a bar to have a couple of drinks - except you just wanna munch on some chips and watch stupid reality television.
Edit - as for the psychosis comment - there was a study done and everything from depression to paranoia to schizophrenia was labeled as 'psychosis'. And it's complete bull crap. Just make sure you know your dealer so it's never laced. Be a smart stoner - not a dumb one.

lol, you'll never get a straight answer to this! Marijuana is highly controversial, you'll get people arguing on both sides. In my opinion, moderation is fine. Any ill effects of marijuana tend to be overstated by the mainstream establishment.

marijuana can adversely affect your memory and judgment. this is not healthy for your child, even if you're secretive. marijuana definitely affects how you relate to others, and i don't think you'd want to potentially sacrifice your relationship with your daughter for a plant.
you may want to consider finding a more healthful relaxation technique. yoga and meditation are superb, but if you're looking for something involving less commitment, perhaps join a book club. read on your own if the discussion isn't your thing. there are a ton of great books out there that really absorbed me; it's relaxing to be so involved in the book rather than your own life. any form of "me" time should help you cope in a less damaging manner.
while what you do is your choice, marijuana is not the best way. being a mother, you know that family comes first. you should love your family above marijuana; it affects more people than just yourself.
please just consider this.

The very fact that you're asking the question suggests that you feel guilty... Would you cope as well if the baby was suddenly ill and you are under the influence of the marijuana? I feel that there may be other less potentially damaging ways of unwinding. A nice bubble bath? A keep fit session?

The only thing, it is illegal. Heck, pay close attention to the legal drugs and their side effects on TV. Makes me wonder how many people are driving vehicles on drugs, but, they think it OK because the drug is prescribed.
I not smoke marijuana, but, I do take a prescription drug that say on the container not to operate machinery or drive and I don't.

I am a firm believer that whatever you do is ok as long as it doesn't disturb me!
I would say it is wrong if your husband objects first of all but what I would rather point out is this!
If your life isn't tolerable try to fix what the problem is!
I would think that would be more important than getting stoned for you-your husband and your baby!
Hope you find my answer helpful!

You're not a bad mother. You sound hardworking and tired. I can't saythat it's the best to be smoking it with you having a family.... but I can't say it's the worst thing either. There's way worse drugs out there than marijuana. It's only illegal because the government can't make any money off of it.

My ex says that infrequent users are 40% more likely to develop psychosis later on in life than a non user. She wont tell me her sources though.
I told her if she could find proof that occasional smoking has any harmful effects I'd quit for good. Now I'm just confused, and I don't know who's lying, the pros or the antis.
