An Associate Program is a two year program -- and a Baccalaureate Program is a four year degree.
WHen employers say they want someone with a college degree, they mean a bachelor's degree. At most schools, if you leave after two years they call you a drop-out.

I believe the Associate Degree is a 2 year college program and many community and technological schools offer them, whereas the Baccalaureate Degree is generally a 4 year college degree, although many students nowadays need 5 years to complete their Bachelor's Degree.

An associates degree is a 2 year degree that is your basics. A baccalaureate program is usually 4 years and is your basics plus your major area of studies.

AA/AS degrees are 2-year degrees most often earned at community colleges; BA/BS are 4-year degrees most often earned at 4-year colleges / universities.
So, yes to both the length of time and the course loads (assuming 12 semester credit hours per term, 2 terms a year) of about 48 credits for the AA/AS and about 96 for the BA/BS.
Other factors to consider:
1) the field of your major
2) the number of classes you take each term
3) if you will be working and going to school, the number of hours you plan to work each week.
Good luck in your studies.

for the BA at Penn state see

Yeah, Associate's degree is super basic. Not to put it down, but most jobs are looking for a "4-year" degree, which would be a Bachelor's. When someone says "college degree", the Bachelor's is usually what they are talking about.
