The average 25 year old with a college degree makes $20K per year more than the average 25 year old without a degree. The gap widens with age.

If you are happy making $40K per year for the rest of your life -- it is OK with me. However, many of my students got six figure salaries at prestigious Wall Street firms right out of college. They like their jobs more.

For starters, how much education have you completed? At this point, regardless of how much education you have or don't have, it is a good thing to have a steady job these days. So, from the little info here, I would say to keep the job...but with these caveats:

1) be sure to save for the rainy day....live within your means...don't spend more than you earn.

2) look to the future....not an easy thing to do, but consider what changes are most likely to happen in the world, economy, etc. that could have both positive and negative impacts on your job. If pluses, would a lack of education or training keep you from advancing (assuming you want to advance...not necessary...some of my friends are content doing what they do and don't want to rise in the company...nothing wrong with that). On the other hand, negative impacts could ultimately mean the loss of this comfy job...so what is Plan B...what can you change to (with or without additional education)? If the cost of living goes up, there is no guarantee you pay will increase to keep up with the rising costs...what will you do then?

3) does your company have a education plan where they reimburse you for classes you take that are relevant to your job? If so, would you consider additional education? In many cases, this could also lead to advancement in the company. And consider this, the IRS, under certain conditions, permits you to deduct some educational expenses for employees taking classes (see http://www.irs.gov/publications/p970/ and be sure to talk with a tax accountant).

Regardless of whether you go to school or go on for more formal education, the fact is you must continue to learn if only because technology will change and require you to learn a new system even if you keep your present job. A key advantage you have by continuing to work is gaining more experience (practical learning rather than classroom learning)...and should you decide to work AND go to school, there is a major advantage you will have. When you complete a degree...you will have a job while most other students will have to try to find one. And the killer question for them will be..."so what kind of job experience do you have?"

I would suggest you keep working, but don't close the door on educational opportunities, especially if they fit your current job.

People don't just further their education because of the potential financial dividends it may give them. Sure, money is a nice motivator, but education provides greater opportunities than one can even articulate or understand until years later. It changes the way we think about and solve problems.

Great, you love your job, you are lucky. Just remember, as we grow our needs change, what we are challenged by changes as well. If you are talking about college, then don't go...we don't care, but if you are talking about dropping out of high school, stay in, otherwise you will forever be a dropout.

If you think you will keep it for that long, then good job to you. A lot of people regret not going to college after being fired from their dream job for someone with more experience and school. It's ultimately your decision in the end.

What job do you have that gives you $25-$30 without a college/ high school degree???

depends where you're making that money. 25-30/hour in most of the country is pretty good, but if you live in an expensive area (such as NYC, SF, etc), you might want to go to school.
Otherwise yeah, just stick with what you're doing.
