In the last year ive become really self conscious and nervous around people. I find it really hard to talk to people nowadays and conversations just dont flow like they used to. I get really uncomfortable when there is silence and im always questioning myself, its like nothing comes naturally to me anymore and im putting way too much thought into everything and too much emphasis on what people think of me. I often cant even motivate myself to talk to my friends because i think ill just have nothing to say. But the thing is i go from one extreme to the other, sometimes you cant shut me up and other times im just zoning out and thinking about what everyone is thinking of me.

I also broke up with my girlfriend a few months ago and thats taking a long time to get over even though i think it was the right thing to do.

Motivating myself to do anything is hard sometimes. Is this something everybody goes through at some stage of their life? (im 21 btw)

I guess, 'cause I'm going through the same thing right now. Like, whenever I talk to my friends, all we do is ask questions about each other like, "Do you like to do this" or "Do you like to do that", and it's really boring. But truthfully, the reason why I don't have good conversations is because I'm afraid of what my friends will think when (if) they discover the real me. I've had many bad friendships in the past, and I've become so self-conscious, so insecure, and so nervous around people that I'm afraid to be myself.

I think it's happened about 17 times in MY life, & MOST people go through it at LEAST a few times... Don't let it "rattle" you- and ignore the Issue about how "long it's taking" to get over your ex-girlfriend. Things that are IMPORTANT to us (WHATEVER they may be), can take a long time to work through... They eventually DO however, & we go on to the NEXT unmittigated disaster in our life (usually thinking, "Now THIS is even WORSE than what happend to me- LAST year!"). Welcome to the Unrelenting World of Adulthood! :)

sounds like you've got a touch of the blues. you need to find a friend you trust and talk to him/her, i mean really talk. you will find you feel a lot better for doing it and you should get some reassurances.
