Okay, here's the deal. Tomorrow (Thursday), we have to tell a story up on stage. And we can't use papers or notes, we have to completely know it. And we have to use a lot of expression and movement. My only problem is, it that I use 'Um' and 'like' and 'so' WAY too much....
How can I fix this???
And also, how can I get myself to use a little more expression and movement??? I KNOW I can do it, but when I'm in front of people, I can't bring myself to do something I already know I can do.....IT'S SO ANNOYING!!

Also, I can get my piece down just right, and know I am going to do well. But when my name is called, and I get up to go infront of the class, my heart starts beating and I start breathing a little faster. Is this because I'm shy, or is it because I'm just not used to being infront of people???? How can I get over this??

I do that EXACT SAME THING!!! Mostly because I'm embarressed, idk why. The best way to make sure that you don't use "um", etc. is to relax. I relax by telling myself that it is for a grade. I know that might make things worse, but think of it this way. You know you can do well, and that you could be the best in the class if you try. So do your best and don't be embarressed to just go out there and do anything to get an "A". reciting it over and over again is good for performance.

Thats the best advice i can give right now. Hope it helps.

In all reality there isn't really much you CAN do about it over night. One of my English teachers hated it when we said 'like,' 'um,' or 'so' since we were "Advanced Students and supposed to sound smarter than that," so she had a bell sitting on her podium that she hit every single time we used those words as fillers. Most people stopped saying it pretty darn quick. So I'd recommend finding something like that. My Aunt used to always cuss out drivers in her car so she started wearing a rubber band around her wrist and every time she cussed she would snap it against her wrist hard. Perhaps trying this while your acting it out in front of the mirror or whatever would work.

As far as movement goes, have you tried actually practicing the exact motions you plan on using while say it? If you do so every single time you practice it it should help. I have a hard time with this sometimes as well. Try practicing in front of your friends as well.

First problem, use your brain before you use your mouth.
Tell an easy story, like little red riding hood. Act out the parts of the wolf, little red and granny and the woodsman!
Concentrate on the story, not on yourself. if you can't bring yourself to do something, you can't do it, in spite of your thinking you can do it. Time to face reality here.
