I am a firm believer of the 346 second rule. unless tomato sauce is involved, then it's 3 seconds.

The food hitting the floor 5 second rule? No way!! Yuck! It hits the floor it hits the trash or the 2 dogs eat it. It's pretty much the same thing no matter how long it's on the floor, but MORE grems might go on it. It's not like that dirt on the floor or the grems all spread out then when it hits the floor it goes to it. That can't happen.

well, say you were in a restaurant, waiting for your food. out of the kitchen you hear "five second rule, five second rule!" then immediately afterwords your food is delivered to you. would you still eat it?

I was brought up in Brooklyn during the depression, so if we dropped something on the sidewalk, we would `kiss` it up to heaven and then eat it. You couldnt afford to waste things then.

hardly... though they say that some people at yale or something did an experiment about that. they used the most traveled path in their cafeteria.... supposedly through this experiment they found it true, depending on where you drop it (like, no mud puddles, just like normal surfaces... and not like liquids or something more like..... skittles etc)

If it's dry, like a chip, then yes.

Anything else, absolutely not, it's going in the trash or my cat eats it.
